Job description

We're looking for an exceptional Lead Data Engineer, who will lead our Azure-based data platform. You will serve as the architect and owner of our data warehouse—ensuring reliability, security, and scalability—while mentoring a small team of engineers.

Who are we?

KUBUS has been supplying the architecture and construction industries with BIM (Building Information Modeling) software since 1992, from design software to tools for model checking, issue management and document management. With BIMcollab, our flagship product suite, we are the market leader in BIM quality management, while stimulating BIM-based collaboration throughout the whole lifecycle of buildings or infrastructure. Our platform enables users to create and use a Digital Twin that becomes the single source of truth, from design and construction to management and maintenance.

We empower users to create and maintain high-quality buildings that are circular, energy efficient, and offer a safe environment. We shape the construction industry by facilitating an integrated BIM process with fast, innovative, and user-friendly solutions that integrate with all popular BIM tools. Through high-quality, service-oriented support we let our users experience the power and joy of a smooth BIM process.

We are a firm believer in the circular economy and are an advocate of circular construction. Our software solutions contribute to the responsible use of our scarce resources. Enabling more sustainable decisions to be made from design to construction and then repurpose these materials during demolition. In our internal operations, we strive to be CO2 neutral. For example, the headquarters is virtually carbon-neutral and KUBUS offsets all CO2 emissions by planting new trees in cooperation with Trees For All, of which we are a forest partner.

Our tech stack

  • Backend: .NET, C#, C++, MS SQL Server.
  • Frontend: Vue/React, TypeScript, Pinia, Tailwind, Headless UI.
  • Tools: Azure DevOps, Figma, xUnit, Playwright.

About your role

As a Lead Data Engineer, you will lead our Azure-based data platform, defining both the strategic vision and hands-on execution of data pipelines, modeling frameworks, and cross-functional collaboration. You will serve as the architect and owner of our data warehouse—ensuring reliability, security, and scalability—while mentoring a small team of engineers. By combining your technical expertise with your leadership skills, you will shape how we collect, store, and utilize data across our BIM-focused SaaS business.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead & Evolve the Data Platform: Own the overall design, implementation, and continuous improvement of our Azure-based data infrastructure, ensuring scalability and security.
  • Architect & Maintain Data Pipelines: Oversee the development of robust ETL/ELT processes, integrating data from internal and external sources while upholding data quality and performance standards.
  • Implement Advanced Data Modeling: Apply frameworks like Kimball, Data Vault, and time-series techniques to create structures that meet diverse business and analytical needs.
  • Lead & Mentor the Team: Provide technical leadership, guidance, and professional development to a small team of data engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
  • Ensure Platform Reliability: Establish best practices for monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing the data platform to deliver a reliable and secure service for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with product, analytics, and other teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions, enabling data-driven decision-making across the organization. You’ll also guide and support other engineering teams in integrating their data seamlessly into the warehouse, ensuring they have easy access to robust, centralized insights.
  • Drive Innovation & Best Practices: Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, introducing new tools and methodologies to advance our data capabilities.

Job requirements

What will make you successful in this role

We’re looking for someone who’s ready to step into a leadership role in data engineering. You might have guided teams before, helped shape architecture decisions, or led initiatives that elevated how organizations use and manage data. You’re comfortable working with Azure data services—such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, or Azure Data Lake Storage—and know how to design and maintain pipelines and warehouses in a way that balances performance, security, and scalability.

You understand data modeling frameworks like Kimball, Data Vault, or time-series architectures. If you’ve used these approaches (or similar) to create flexible, efficient schema designs that serve both operational and analytical needs, that’s a plus. You also have experience building and refining ETL/ELT pipelines, whether it’s integrating data from third-party APIs or handling large-scale internal data. Best practices around reliability, security, and performance are second nature to you, and you’re not afraid to explore new technologies that could elevate our stack.

Collaboration and communication are a big part of this role. You enjoy partnering with teammates across different functions—translating technical details into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders and working together to drive data-informed decisions. Your coding background (in SQL, Python, or similar) means you’re comfortable getting hands-on when necessary, but you also keep the broader vision in mind.

We especially value curiosity and a commitment to continuous learning. If you’re excited about staying on top of emerging technologies, experimenting with new solutions, and helping others on the team grow, you’ll thrive here. We know no one fits every bullet point perfectly, so if you see aspects of your experience or interests reflected here, we’d love to learn more about you.

Our offer

We offer a pivotal role within our organization where you can have a huge amount of impact. You work on an innovative platform that is used daily by the world’s largest building companies globally. We cherish continuous learning and improvement and take pride in our diverse and inclusive company culture. You can count on the following:

  • A competitive compensation package.
  • Profit sharing, on average 1,3 gross monthly salary.
  • 27 vacation days with an opportunity to buy additional days.
  • Above-average secondary employment conditions: generous pension scheme and employee participation ensure a great involvement of the employees.
  • Green benefits: compensation for all green home investments, electrification of the vehicle fleet and a bicycle scheme.
  • Plenty of room for personal input, initiative and independence and good development and training opportunities with a yearly learning budget of 1500 EUR.
  • Contemporary extras such as a catered joint lunch, always fresh fruit.
  • You work from home if you want, with 2 days a week in our nearly energy-neutral work environment at the office, located in the centre of Eindhoven (walking distance from the Central Station).
  • A monthly home office allowance.
  • Opportunity to work fully remote up to 4 weeks a year!

At KUBUS, we strive for an inclusive and diverse work environment where everyone is welcome, regardless of their background, gender, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, or disability. We encourage applicants with diverse perspectives and backgrounds to apply and believe in equal opportunities for all. We value the unique contributions that each employee can make and are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone is respected and appreciated.
